Close to 20:45 in the evening a single terrorists entered the Mercaz HaRav yeshiva in Jerusalem carrying a small package, and opened fire in all directions. As security forces arrived at the mostly-religious Kiriat Moshe neighborhood, they found an explosive vest. They concentrated on evacuation, and only after the vest was neutralized by sappers could the injured be evacuated.

The terrorist was put down by Dovid Shapira, an officer of TZaHal who lives next door to the Yeshivah, along with two detectives who accompanied him. Shapira reportedly fired 17 rounds into the terrorist.

According to reports, 7 murdered, about 10 injured of which 6 were hospitalized, and 1 terrorist were killed.

Interestingly enough, at first the sounds of rifle fire were thought to be from firecrackers, which Jewish youth throughout the world set off at this time of year as we approach Purim, and so no one called the police until it was realized that this was, to our sorrow, a terrorist attack.

No group has taken "credit" for what is the worst terrorist incident in Israel years. Eyewitness reports broadcast on TV news tell of "400-500 round fired into the Beis HaMedrash."

It is also unclear if the injured were from Mercaz HaRav, or from other yeshivot.

Yeshivat Mercaz HaRav is located far from the "seam line" which is the limit of the Palestinian Occupied area. Also, the identity card found with the killed terrorist was a "blue" card, meaning he was a citizen of Iarael, not the Arab-occupied Jewish Lands.

Arab Terrorist Attacks Jerusalem's Merkaz HaRav Yeshiva: 8 Dead

by Nissan Ratzlav-Katz

(IsraelNN.com) An Arab terrorist infiltrated Jerusalem's Merkaz HaRav Yeshiva at around 8:30 Thursday night and murdered eight Jews. At least 10 people were wounded; five are in serious to critical condition, a sixth victim was wounded moderately and four others, lightly.

The attacker entered the yeshiva and opened fire on students before he was gunned down himself by an armed civilian. Witnesses say that the attack began in the seminary's library with the terrorist spraying bullets in every direction before anyone could react.

The part-time yeshiva student who killed the terrorist, 40-year-old Yitzchak Dadon, said that he shot the attacker in the head with his personal weapon. David Shapira, a yeshiva graduate and officer in the paratroopers, heard the shots from his nearby home, ran to the yeshiva and "finished [the terrorist] off."

Asked by a Channel 2 TV reporter what weapon the Palestinian Authority terrorist had, Dadon said, "A Kalachnikov," and turning to the camera, he angrily added, "The Kalachnikov that you gave him, President Peres..."

Initial reports indicated that a second terrorist was hiding in the yeshiva building, responding security forces determined that the reports were false. Police deployed in the surrounding neighborhood, and scoured the yeshiva and connected buildings. Most students in the building were evacuated after taking cover in the yeshiva's bomb shelter, according to police spokesmen.

Fifty ambulances responded to the scene, which emergency responders called "a major incident." The wounded were evacuated to Hadassah Ein Karem and Shaarei Tzedek Hospitals.

In Gaza City, Arab residents went out into the streets and fired rifles in the air in celebration of the attack against the Jews of Jerusalem.

Police forces have been increased throughout the capital and placed on heightened alert around the country.

The Merkaz HaRav Yeshiva is located near the entrance to Jerusalem, in the Kiryat Moshe neighborhood. The yeshiva, founded by Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Kook, is at the heart of the national-religious movement in Israel.

Four People Injured in Other Attacks
Four people were wounded in a rocket attack on Sderot on Thursday evening. One of the victims, who was in his house when it sustained a direct hit, suffered moderate head wounds. Three other people suffered light injuries.

A second rocket hit a gas tank, causing a fire. Firefighters managed to gain control of the blaze. No injuries were reported.

Arabs attacked Israeli drivers on Thursday night, rolling flaming tires onto Route 60 as cars drove past.  The attack took place west of Hevron, near the town of Otniel. IDF soldiers witnessed the group beginning its attack and fired on one of the attacker's legs. The attacker was hit and wounded moderately.

From the new wires:

"Meanwhile on Thursday, Israel said it would continue negotiations with the Palestinian Authority despite the attack."

"These terrorists are trying to destroy the chances of peace but we certainly will continue the peace talks," Foreign Ministry spokesman Arye Mekel said.

Quote from: AP
In Lebanon, Hezbollah's Al-Manar satellite TV station said a previously unknown group called the Martyrs of Imad Mughniyeh and Gaza was responsible for the attack. The claim could not immediately be verified. Mughniyeh, a Hezbollah commander, was killed in a car bomb in Syria last month. Hezbollah has blamed Israel for the assassination.

For ONCE those animals (AP and the Hezzies) have it right. Jews who hold Heaven in Awe (yorie shamyim) know that we ourselves are the final arbiters of our own fate.

Acknowledge the L-rd in thought and deed -- we're protected.

Act scared, run to the Goyim for defense... well. May we not have to suffer the judgment for our misdeeds.

Lieberman Blames Arab MKs for Attack

(IsraelNN.com) "Yisrael Beiteinu" chief MK Avigdor Lieberman said Friday that Arab Knesset members bore responsibility for the murderous attack in Jerusalem. "Those who call IDF activity for the protection of the residents of the south 'war crimes,' and who incite and burn the Israeli flag in Umm El-Fahm, cannot absolve themselves of responsibility for the heinous attack in Jerusalem," Lieberman said.

"One cannot disconnect yesterday's terror attack from the incitement by the Arab Knesset members, which we hear daily in the Knesset," Lieberman explained. "They are not just a fifth column, but official representatives of terror organizations in Israel's Knesset."

Lieberman said that the fact that the terrorist carried a blue ID card was not surprising, "if one takes into account the incitement of Israel's Arabs."

Only in the State of "Israel" this atrocity can be tolerated because the JEW blood is cheap in the State.

Reports tonight say the "West Bank" has been sealed off.  I ask you, how will that protect us from "Israeli" Arabs and those living in Jerusalem?

THEY MUST GO!  Angry

I have been busy following the information concerning this tragedy.  The government needs to fall and victory needs to be attained absolutely or this horror will become more common.  The lions are at our gates and the worms eat us up from inside.  This situation is untenable.

Rabbi Dovid Bar Chaim had an interesting interview on the Tamar Yona show
mms://msmedia.a7.org/arutz7/shows/ty/tamar080310.mp3 in which he claimed that the death of the yeshiva students should be defined as desecration of G-d's name and does not fall into the category of the sanctification of G-d's name.
I believe he defines sanctification of G-d's name when you have a choice to live or die and one chooses to die for the sake of certain halachic ideals as set down by the Rambam

Then he goes on to say that he thinks Mercaz Harav and most other institutions are at fault for not having a security guard and locked fence.
One has to ask if all of his own lectures have such security precautions.
But furthermore, although I don't have a strong opinion on this, but I am leaning towards the viewpoint that maybe emphasizing fences and guards is not a good thing,
1] because it deceives people into thinking that this is the solution when the solution really involves killing or expelling the enemy.
2 It makes Israel a less desirable place to live in with all the security restrictions
3 It is a huge financial burden
4 Who will guard the guard from a terrorist attack
5 A terrorist who is willing to give up his life and can chose the time and place for his attacks can probably find ways to get around the fence and then the Jews inside will be in an even worse situation being fooled into thinking that they are protected and having their escape route being blocked by a fence in case of an attack. Indeed some of the Jews who were murdered in the Mercaz Harav Library would have lived if their was a second entrance/exit to the room besides the one used by the terrorist.
6 when jews were being attacked on shabbat, some Rabbis urged relaxing the laws of Muktza so that muggers could be provided with money on shabbat and not be too angry at their victims. Rabbi Kahane said relax the laws of Muktza to allow carrying handguns on Shabbat.
Indeed it was a teacher with a handgun and not the police that eventually killed the terrorist in the mercaz harav massacre.

For those who understand Hebrew a friend sent me some interesting links about the terrorist attack

If you want to know why Yitzchak Dadon , the hero who killed the terrorist is not being mentioned in some of the latest news reports.
Here is why.

While you may not like the security guards idea (I too prefer there be no arabs instead) it is definetly necessary and if it were up to me there would be more than there are now and much more heavily armed. (I lost it on the SG at my kids gan on friday for him not being where he was supposed to be)
