IF THERE IS NO GOD, THERE IS NO RAISON D'ETRE TO LIVE IN ISRAEL Print E-mail

(AND THE WORLD WOULD BE AN UGLIER PLACE TO LIVE IN)

   1. On the background of the words said and written by Dr. Uri Milstein that there is no proof to the existence of God, and that the descriptions in the Bible do not correspond with those of the other peoples, namely that the Torah is not a Divine Order that was descended to the Chosen People, but a historical story presented out of certain interests, and the way Jesus and Muhammad thought they were God's messengers, but they were not, Abraham, Moses and their followers should be treated in the same way! (Those who called 'Whoever is with God, come to me!", caused troubles to humanity!) Therefore, Dr. Milstein believes only in science and its discoveries!    2. Before referring to the thesis of Dr. Milstein, I would like to ask him and those who think like him: why do you continue living in Israel? The fact that you and your family were born here, doesn't make you happy, so why carry on endangering the lives of your folk on this part of the globe? Science rules everywhere on planet Earth and, as far as you're concerned, in the whole Universe, so you have no particular reason to live in the Land of Israel; from your point of view, there is no point of fighting the Arabs over this piece of land and over a unique identity, since science, namely the Theory of Evolution, take care of everything, and we may continue to exist only by its ways.
   3. That's why the members of the camp that does not believe in God (such as the 'Labor Movement', the 'Zionist Left', the 'Peace Camp', the anarchists, etc.) want 'Peace Now' and are willing to renounce the land and change the national emblems. In conclusion, we don't have a struggle between two political camps (like in the USA), but between two blocks with completely different beliefs. When the 'non believer camp' speaks up, it makes part of the 'world culture', without religions and nations, a civilization whose sole aim is to survive and cares about global issues like the global warming caused by hothouse gases. But where is the catch? The Universal Camp in Israel forget or prefer not to see that we are surrounded by neighbors who couldn't care less about global issues, who live completely submersed in the Islam, and for them, whoever is not on their side, is against them. In other words, if the Islamic world could, it would impose the Islam on the rest of the citizens of the world or would kill them; they will do the same to the Jews of our Universal Camp! (the hand offered in peace to the Arab neighbors from the region will not bring peace and quiet and real bonding; it will not connect us to the ideas of 'One World'!)
   4. The space in this article is too limited to include a discussion of the philosophical question whether God exists; but we cannot skip it entirely; therefore, I will resume myself to a number of questions on the divinity dwelling in science and introduce some doubt into it.
         1. What is science? History has proved to us that every couple of hundreds of years, the human way of thinking changes, and in modern times it changes every hundred years or less, and today, every few years. I'll bring you an example from Medicine: even to day we do not know how the body functions, especially the brain; modern medicine has no cure for lethal diseases and viruses. The fact that longevity has increased is not due to Medicine, but to rich and accessible food and to individual and public hygiene. On the one hand, the public is warned not to let its cholesterol exceed X, but lo and behold, the French consume butter and wine and get less heart attacks than the Americans! The government and the institutions encourage people to take expensive medicines, but only 1% of the people who take them heal and the rest suffer from side effects. In conclusion, a long and healthy life is only granted by sports and a healthy diet, accompanied by an altruistic way of thinking (philanthropic and not materialistic). So where is science? The truth is that we are facing, at its best, trial and error and, at its worst, huge profits made by the 'health' industry!
         2. Until the Theory of Relativity and the Quantum Theory of Eistein came along, we believed in Newton's theory. Then Einstein came and rejected it completely. Then we were told that light moves in space in a straight line and we measured distances in space by light years, but then it transpired that light curbs when it encounters a planet of solid mass, but also continues from there at higher speed. So what is the right thing and why should we believe that the current thesis is the absolute truth?
         3. Let's assume that there is a science that researches the elements of human life and of the Universe; has its existence increased humanism among people? Has it prevented wars? Has it deterred man from the race after riches and power?
         4. Let's assume that Abraham and Moses did not preach for the monotheistic faith; what world would we be living in? Wouldn't it be possible that the culture of the Egyptian kings would have gone on for thousands of years; where would it have led us? Let's assume that jesus did not rise and the Roman Empire would have gone on for hundreds of years, even more; wouldn’t have Paganism and the worship of idols gone on? Leading where? And if Muhammad hadn't considered himself a messenger of God, what would have become of the pagan tribes in the desert? Would they have reached a high degree of organization like the Islam?
   5. In conclusion, due to the Monotheistic religions the world has advanced and advanced the socio-cultural aspect of civilization. Without Monotheism, the world would have become masses of oppressors and oppressed like in the ancient world (Egypt, Greece and Rome). Who fought against the 'wonders' of Capitalism? Religion! Who fought against corruption in China? The Falong Cast! Who opposed the military - regime in Burma? The monks! Who fights against rulers and kings who rob the people from the oil-money in Arab countries? Religious movements! Therefore, all over the world, those who oppose discrimination, inequality and injustice are priests, monks and religious wise men!
   6. In the light of all this, the reader will ask, why the Arab countries do not recognize our right to the Land of Israel; why do the Catholic Christians aspire that the People of Israel recognize the divinity of Jesus? Why does the Muslim world regard the West as the root of all evil? Here is the difference between the Jewish people and the rest of the world: it doesn't aspire to take over the world, it doesn't dream of converting everybody to Judaism; it only wants to be a light to itself and to the others.

This is a huge difference! The Jewish People explains the principles of  the Torah by logic and common sense. The other religions want to force themselves upon the others!

Therefore, the Jewish People should not renounce its identity, because it is not only its religion, but its physical existence and its land!

The fact that we survived for 2000 years in the Diaspora, does not mean that we can live without a country. The hardships of our existence there,  reduced the energy and vivaciousness, necessary to fulfill our mission as a people.

Therefore, our struggle today is not only for a piece of land, but for the continuation of our existence as a special and unique people, and the possibility to realize our destiny in the history of mankind!
