Richard
Jones, the present US ambassador to Israel, a man who until three days
ago was so unimportant to me that I had never even heard of him, has
done the Jewish People a very great service, for which I wish to thank
him. Mr. Jones has allowed us once again to see exactly how the US in
general, and the US Department of State in particular, views its
relations with the state of Israel, as well as the Jewish People.
Behind the phony friendship and “ally” rhetoric, there lies abject
hatred.
For those of you who have not yet heard, on Monday the 21st of May 2007, Mr. Jones, in a lecture he gave at Bar-Ilan University, stated in part as follows (I read the following in Hebrew and translated it into English): “I know that [Jonathan] Pollard supposedly aided an ally. But this is precisely why the matter is so sensitive. In point of fact, an ally of the US worked with someone who betrayed his country. Pollard took money and sold out his country” (emphasis added). Let us remember what Mr. Pollard did. Mr. Pollard, upon learning of the Iraqi nuclear program, and furthermore, upon learning that the US was keeping it secret from Israel despite having undertaken the responsibility of advising its “ally” Israel of same, took it upon himself to apprise Israel of the dangerous state of affairs. There could have been only one purpose for an Iraqi nuclear bomb, to wit, to destroy the state of Israel. And this the US chose to keep secret from Israel, its so-called ally. As a result of Mr. Pollard’s integrity, bravery and love of People, Mr. Menahem Begin knew to destroy the Iraqi nuclear capability, a matter for which Mr. Begin was resoundingly condemned by his “ally” the good old US of A. The simple fact is that the US knowingly and with malice aforethought, withheld information from us that could have meant our very existence. It was Mr. Pollard who prevented disaster. How then could Mr. Jones have said: “I know that Pollard supposedly aided an ally. But this is precisely why the matter is so sensitive. In point of fact, an ally of the US worked with someone who betrayed his country. Pollard took money and sold out his country”. Indeed the Pollard matter involves betrayal, the betrayal of Israel by the US. Indeed the Pollard matter involves “selling out”, the selling out of Israel by the US. Indeed Mr. Pollard aided a supposed ally of the US. With friends like the US Israel is in no need of enemies. But the piece de resistance was yet to come. Mr. Jones had the temerity to say “the fact that Pollard hasn’t been executed is due to the compassion which was bestowed upon him” and that Mr. Pollard “committed treason against his country”. In doublespeak anti-semitism turns into “compassion”, and protecting your country’s ally becomes “treason”. One would have thought that at a time when the US is so deeply involved in Iraq, the powers that be in the US would have bethought their treacherous behavior towards Mr. Pollard and towards their so-called ally. But the anti-semitism in the state department is much stronger than one would have thought. American virulent anti-semitism is nothing new. The only reason why Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were executed was because they were Jewish. My G-d, Ethel Rosenberg was nothing more then a housewife. The bottom line of the American policy towards the Jews in WWII was that a dead Jew cannot become a refugee. So yes Mr. Jones, I thank you for the service you have made to my people in that you have shown us once again that American anti-semitism is alive and well and living in Washington, DC. Too bad for the both of us that my fellow Jews both in Israel and in the US refuse to face the facts, refuse to see the truth. But I have faith in you and your ilk, the day will come when you will manage to convince them. I only pray that when that day comes there will still be Jews in America to make aliyah. The writer is an American born Jew who made aliyah 29 years ago as a result of the teachings of Rabbi Meir Kahane. |
